Mega Man X Giga Armor Figure Rises Again

Four score and seven years ago – actually, one score ago, which is twenty years – a series of Mega Man figures hit the shelves called the Mega Armor series. The toy line has been revitalized and given an upgraded name to boot. It is no longer a mere mega armor series. It is now… the Giga Armor series! Mua ha ha ha ha! It consists of two models and one set of armor parts that can combine with either figure. There’s Mega Man X, Rush Jagd (his dog), and the giga armor itself. Mega Man can wear the armor, which looks awesome on him, or it can combine with Rush to form the Ride Chaser.

Impressive as it looks, the phrase “smaller than on TV” applies here. The base Mega Man model only reaches around five-and-a-half inches, about the same size as other mini-model figures. The price, on the other hand, is a tall order at $110. That’s quite a hefty demand for something so small, but take the set’s interconnectivity into account and it starts to make a bit more sense. But only a bit, as there are larger and more intricate model kits with transformable parts for cheaper than this. The main difference is the multiple model pieces included.

The Giga Armor series is produced by Bandai and released in Japan on November 24, just a couple days ago. It can be found on Play Asia and exists in limited quantity, at least according to the product page. Potential buyers who would prefer to sit on it for a while will likely be able to find it through other sources later on. The bottom line here is, if you’re really into Mega Man, remember the holidays are coming up fast. Otherwise, it wouldn’t hurt to see what other, more accessible merchandise is out there waiting to be found.
