Marvel Celebrates 60 Years of Spider-Man with New Book

This year, Marvel celebrates 60 years of web-slinging action with Spider-Man: Panel by Panel. This hardcover collection features a reimagining of Spidey’s first stories by Chip Kidd. The graphic designer will use original vintage copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 and Spider-Man #1 and present them in a new way. The anniversary collection will hit shelves in October to honor the Spider-Man anniversary.

What Will Spider-Man: Panel By Panel Include?

Spider-Man: Panel By Panel includes two complete stories, as well as original art from the Library of Congress. Spider-Man made his debut in 1962 with Amazing Fantasy #15 from Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The debut story featured cover art from legendary comic artist Jack Kirby. As a result of the success of these issues, The Amazing Spider-Man #1 was published in 1963. Now, 60 years later, this book will combine those unique stories in a brand-new way for the Spider-Man anniversary.

Award-winning graphic designer Chip Kidd will provide new looks at the original panels from the comics. These panels come from stunning photographs courtesy of Geoff Spear.  Plus, the book will feature exclusive commentary from people close to Spider-Man. This includes Kidd, along with Marvel editor Tom Brevoort, historian Mark Evanier, and Library of Congress curator Sara Duke. They will discuss the effects of 60 years of Spider-Man.
